SkinPen is an FDA-cleared microneedling device that stimulates the skin’s natural repair and remodeling process without heat, lasers, or chemicals – making it a unique regenerative treatment for your skin.
The device uses precise, sterile microneedles to create controlled microchannels in the skin. This activates a natural healing response that supports the production of new collagen and elastin, helping the skin appear smoother, firmer, and more even.
SkinPen is FDA-cleared to improve the appearance of facial acne scars in adults across all Fitzpatrick skin types and wrinkles on the neck in Fitzpatrick skin types II through IV. Your dermatologist may also recommend medical microneedling for other appropriate concerns.
Face and neck: Forehead, temples, cheeks, around the eyes, around the mouth, jawline, beneath the chin, and neck
Body: Chest, abdomen, arms, hands, thighs, buttocks, stretch marks, and selected surgical or traumatic scars
A topical numbing cream is typically applied before treatment. SkinPen is then passed across the treatment area at a customized depth, creating precise microscopic channels in the skin.
Patients generally feel light pressure, vibration, or a mild scratching sensation.
Treatment typically takes approximately 15–30 minutes, although the total appointment may be longer when numbing time is included.
SkinPen may be performed alone or incorporated into a broader regenerative or scar-treatment plan.
The treated skin commonly appears pink or red, similar to a mild sunburn. Temporary tightness, sensitivity, dryness, or light peeling may also occur.
Most redness improves within 24 to 72 hours, although recovery varies according to the treatment depth, treatment area, and individual healing response.
Some patients notice smoother, more radiant skin within a few days to several weeks.
Collagen production and remodeling occur gradually, with continued improvement for approximately three to six months after the final treatment.
A series of treatments is generally recommended for acne scars, significant textural concerns, or more advanced collagen remodeling.
