Why is Vitamin C so important? What is all the hype?

Share

Well, Vitamin C, aka ascorbic acid, is a super ingredient with many benefits, albeit picky as heck!

Vitamin C is an antioxidant. What that means is, it neutralizes free radicals. Free radicals are formed from our skin’s interaction with pollution, sunlight, etc. Free radicals damage the collagen in our skin, as well as our skin’s DNA. Antioxidants help to neutralize this oxidative damage, and Vitamin C is amongst the strongest. However, ascorbic acid is also a very unstable compound. Formulation is key when it comes to creating a product that has an active, long lasting form of Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is also involved in pigment formation. It helps decrease brown spots formed from chronic sun exposure. It brightens the skin, giving you a youthful glow. Vitamin C is also a crucial component in the formation of collagen (what does Vitamin C not do??). Collagen is necessary to keep our skin bouncy, smooth, and wrinkle free. Vitamin C aids in this process, and the topical application of it has proven to improve collagen formation.

A powerhouse, finicky super soldier is our beloved Vitamin C. Here at Hudson Derm, we work tirelessly to deliver quality, new age, affordable products to our patients. Stay tuned for the results of our study and the new antioxidant on the block!
